Probashi Kallayan Bank (PKB)প্রবাসী কল্যাণ ব্যাংক (পিকেবি) is a state-owned bank in Bangladesh and a specialized financial institution dedicated to serving non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs). The bank was established in 2010 by the Government of Bangladesh to provide financial services to overseas Bangladeshis. PKB started its operations with an initial capital of 1 billion taka, of which 95% came from the Wage Earners’ Welfare Fund, while the remaining 5% was contributed by the Government of Bangladesh.

In 2021, the Expatriates’ Welfare Minister announced plans to establish branches of Probashi Kallyan Bank (PKB) in every Upazila across Bangladesh. In August 2021, PKB signed an agreement with NCC Bank to facilitate remittance disbursement. Additionally, in June 2022, PKB established a currency exchange booth at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to further support expatriate workers. PKB plays a crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion for expatriate workers and ensuring that their contributions benefit both their families and the national economy.

Probashi Kallayan Bank (PKB)প্রবাসী কল্যাণ ব্যাংক (পিকেবি) is a state-owned specialized financial institution established under the Probashi Kallyan Bank Act-2010 with the aim of contributing to the country’s economy by increasing remittance inflows while ensuring the overall welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis. The bank was founded in 2011 and was officially listed as a scheduled specialized bank on July 30, 2018.

PKB began its operations with an initial capital of 1 billion taka, of which 95% came from the Expatriate Workers’ Welfare Fund and the remaining 5% was contributed by the Government of Bangladesh. As of March 2021, the bank’s authorized capital stood at 5,000 million taka, while its paid-up capital reached 4,450 million taka. Notably, in 2020, the paid-up capital was 4,000 million taka. The bank’s head office is located in Eskaton, Dhaka.

Since its establishment, Probashi Kallyan Bank (PKB) has provided migration loans to hundreds of thousands of overseas workers. The bank approves migration loans within just three days. Additionally, a significant number of workers who have returned from abroad have received employment assistance through rehabilitation loans. Probashi Kallyan Bank operates through 120 branches across various districts in Bangladesh. The bank collects registration fees, smart card fees, and wage earners’ welfare fees from approximately 2,000 workers preparing to go abroad each day through its 120 branches, including the main branch.

PKB launched its online banking services in January 2014. Due to the limitations of existing banking systems, many expatriate workers resort to illegal channels for transferring money. To ensure fast, accurate, and professional financial services for migrants and to increase remittance inflows, PKB is in the process of introducing limited commercial banking activities. To further support migrant workers, a help desk has been set up at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to assist both departing and returning workers.
